Tumwater’s Hoffer, Rainier's Tyrrell Lead Area Racers in Olympia

Four local squads went north to LBA Park to run two miles through the smoke at the Olympia XC Invite Saturday.

The races were split and recorded by graded.

Tumwater’s John Hoffer had the best time of any area racer, covering the course in 10:25.87 to take sixth in the senior race. Juniors Brynden Hamilton and Reis Howell finished 50 seconds later but took fourth and fifth in their race at 11:15.87 and 11:17.61, respectively. Senior Mason Ball finished 22nd in his bout at 11:28.15, and Jude Furubotten finished eighth among freshmen at 11:38.17.

Black Hills’ sophomore Luke Grunenfelder was the only other local boy to finish in his respective top 10, taking seventh at 11:22.99. Jr. Truman Wimsett finished 22nd for the Wolves at 12:04.06.



On the girls’ side, Rainier’s Hailey Tyrrell repped both the area and the 2B ranks with a time of 14:11.59, good for sixth in the senior race. Brynn Beckman finished 13th among sophomores at 14:19.67. Opposite them, James Meldrum finished the course in 12:20.16 for 37th among the sophomore boys.

Tumwaters’ Olivia Ahrens took 16th among juniors in 14:21.71, while Rachel Zahn and Ashley Yourski were 15th and 17th, respectively, in the junior race. Black Hills got a 24th-place finish out of freshman Adeline Rice (17:32.58).

W.F. West’s best finish came from sophomore Mercedes Ricks on the girls’ end, with a 30th-place result in 15:29.08. For the boys, Jaysen Miles was 33rd in the senior race with a time of 12:19.85, while Ezra Birchard was 44th among sophomores at 12:38.78 and Hunter Bradley’s time of 12:40.23 was good for 40th among seniors.
