Tumwater student pages in the state House of Representatives

Posted

Tumwater High School student Isabella Martin served as a page last week in the Washington state House of Representatives.

She was sponsored by Rep. Beth Doglio, D-Olympia.

In the state of Washington students 14 to 16 years old are able to apply to be a legislative page. The pages serve in the Legislature for a week assisting offices, delivering messages and working on the chamber floor. Pages also carry the flags at the opening of each day's legislative session. The page program includes civics education. Pages spend a chunk of each day in page school where they learn about their state's government.

Being selected as a page is considered an honor, and students that wish to be considered must have a referral by a teacher and their school principal.

Pages are also given a stipend of $65 a day for the job.

Applications to become a page for the 2026 legislative session will open Nov. 1 2025.
