An insurance run in the top of the seventh gave the Thunderbirds a 7-5 triumph over Tahoma on Saturday morning, but couldn’t carry the momentum into the second contest in a 9-0 loss to Mount Vernon.

The victory against the Bears was the first win of the season for Tumwater. Between the two games, it used 10 different pitchers. It scored in the top of the fourth on a bases loaded walk, then plated five runs in the fifth on a Luke Overbay RBI double and two-run base hits by Jimmy Womach and Derek Thompson.

After Tahoma got all five runs back in the sixth, Womach laced an RBI double in the seventh and Braeden Konrad set down Tahoma 1-2-3 in the seventh. Womach finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Overbay and Landon Roy each registered two hits.

In the second game against the Bulldogs, Tumwater (1-3) was limited to four hits and had three errors defensively. Mount Vernon scored at least a run in the first four innings and broke the game open with a four-run sixth.

Konrad had a double for the Thunderbirds in the second game. Their pitchers allowed nine walks in the game. Tumwater will open EvCo play on Tuesday against Centralia.
