Tumwater relays show out in loaded Pasco Invite

Both of the Thunderbirds 1,600-meter relay quartets dazzled on the track at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco, picking up the only two victories from the area contingent at the Pasco Invite on Saturday.

On the girls side, the team of Cassidy Hedin, Ava Jones, Reese Heryford and Annabelle Clapp recorded a time of 4 minutes, 2.59 seconds to clip Rocky Mountain by .20 seconds. Tumwater’s boys group of Josh Schlecht, Reid Crumley, Jaxon Budd and Blake Kirkpatrick ran 3:25.43 to take first place.

Tumwater’s girls squad finished inside the top-10 with 29 points while the boys tied for 15th with 15 points. W.F. West’s boys team had 10 points on the day and its girls totaled three points.

Jones registered a pair of top-five finishes in the open 100 and 200, plus anchored the T-Birds fourth place 400 relay. Clapp placed fifth in the open 400 and ninth in the 800. 



W.F. West’s Amanda Bennett heaved the javelin over 117 feet to place sixth. Rochester’s Mercedies Dupont (400) and Onalaska’s Kaiyah Sandridge (javelin) had top-15 performances.

For the boys, Crumley and Aaron Paul were Tumwater’s highest individual finishers with seventh place showings in the 300 hurdles and high jump, respectively, while Dane Iverson placed eighth in the shot put. Schlecht (400) and the T-Birds 400 relay each placed 10th.

W.F. West’s Caleb Busse launched the discus over 172 feet to place fourth in the event while Lucas Hoff garnered fifth in the high jump and eighth in the pole vault.

Justice Miller (discus) of Onalaska and Gunnar Morgan (1,600) of Rochester each placed 21st.
