Trojans top Mules for crucial league win

The Pe Ell volleyball team picked up a crucial league win on Tuesday, sweeping Wahkiakum 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 to remain one of the last unbeaten teams in the 1B Columbia Valley League.

Entering the night, three teams, including Wahkiakum and Pe Ell, had zero league losses, but now Pe Ell and Columbia Adventist remain as the last undefeated teams in league play.

Karli Phelps had just one serving error on 21 attempts, dishing out 14 assists while also adding four digs, two kills, and two blocks, while Madi Engel didn’t miss a serve and posted seven kills, two aces, and two digs.

Maisy King had an incredible night at the net, logging six blocks and four kills, while Sophia Milanowski had 10 digs and four aces. Ava King added six kills, Ruby Magruder collected six digs, and Brynnlee Hoffman finished with three aces.

“These girls are giving our crowd a show,” Pe Ell coach Jill Engel said. “They are having fun and putting the pieces together. It’s great to watch them work it out and keep their focus when things get loose.”

The Trojans (5-3, 3-0 1B CVL) will head to Oakville on Thursday.
