Playing for sole possession of fourth place in the league standings, the Pe Ell volleyball team needed to go to five sets to pull out a thrilling victory against Three Rivers Christian, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16, 18-25, 15-11.

Trojans coach Hollie Briggs singled out the play of senior setter Kennedy Kephart, who finished with 24 assists and was perfect on her passes, 69 for 69, in the win.

“She was huge,” Briggs said. “Being able to get to the ball, she was all over the place. That makes a huge difference.”

In system for most of the night, the Trojans’ hitters capitalized on the precise passes, with Alli Engel recording 17 kills with a block and Taylor Briggs serving up nine aces. In the back row, Ava Bush and Payton Peterson each had seven digs.

“I’m super proud of them for coming together tonight,” coach Briggs said.

The Trojans (4-4) are now in the driver’s seat for fourth place in league, and will play their first non-league match of the season against Napavine at home next Monday.
