Trailblazers Gain Redemption Against Treasure Valley

After losing to Treasure Valley by 15 earlier this season, Centralia College women’s basketball handed the Chukars a 54-47 defeat during a tournament in Gresham on Friday.

The Blazers ran coach Caleb Sells’ 1-1-3 zone defense to perfection during the second quarter, allowing them to reel off a 21-7 run to take the lead for good.

“We could have won by a bit more,” Sells said. “The girls were executing but they got tired.”

While the defense was humming, the Blazers had their best 3-point shooting performance of the season, connecting on 7 of 18 (39%), and shot 41% from the field.

Shawnacee Davis led the Blazers with a team-high 16 points, while Paige Winter added 15, Lexie Sederberg-Jones had 13 and Mallory Williams chipped in 11. Allison DeBerry hauled in a team-high eight boards.

Centralia College (4-5) faces Everett at 2 p.m. Saturday, then Mount Hood on Sunday.
