Track Roundup: Sickles Breaks School Record in Home Meet

Setting new personal bests on his home track, Winlock’s Payton Sickles set the program record in the 100-meter dash Tuesday afternoon in league meet in Egg Town. 

The senior ran the 100 in 11.44, and then doubled down and won a second event in the 200m later in 23.54, a personal best. Other winners for the Cardinals included Chase Trodahl in the 1600m (5:04.63), and the girls 4x200-meter relay, with Natalie Cardenas Hernandez, Kindyl Kelly, Cali Scofield, and Victoria Sancho winning in 2:00.78. 

Morton-White Pass also had a strong day, with Hunter Brackett winning the 3200m (10:32.91), Clark Henderson winning the 300m hurdles (44.84), Gaven Cheney winning the javelin (112 feet, 9 inches), Tony Belgiorno winning the long jump (18 feet, 8 inches), and Max Lowe rounding out the boys with a 37 foot, 7 inch triple jump win. 

Winners for the girls for the Timberwolves were Amy Martinez in the 100m (13.94), Ayricka Hughes in the 3200m (14:13.32), Karah Fairhart in the discus (69 feet, 4 inches), and the 4x100-meter relay including Katelyn Gilstrap, Chloe Kelly, Madyson Bryant, and Martinez (56.18). The 4x400-meter relay also won, featuring Haylee Morgan, Trinity Rayment, Bryant, and Kelly (5:04.55). 

Onalaska featured a double-winner in Brooklyn Sandridge, who won the 800m in 2:41.22 and the 100m hurdles in 18.24. Other winners were Meilissa Reiman for the girls in the 1600m (6:13.81), Ben Russon in the boys 800m (2:09.06), Parker Aldrich in the boys shot put (44 feet, 1.25 inches), and Justice Miller in the boys discus (123 feet, 5 inches). 

The final area team that made a big impact was Toledo, who won seven events. 

Zack Smith was a double-winner, winning the 110m hurdles in 18.14 and the high jump (5 feet, 0.25 inches). The Toledo boys also won the 4x100-meter relay with Trevin Gale, Smith, Ray Robinett-Skoubo, and Jordan Mckenzie in 47.52, and the 4x400-meter relay with Gale, Bryson Trosper, John Rose, and Mckenzie in 3:47.22. 

Toledo girls’ winners included Jasmine Kemmerer in the 400m (1:08.68) and long jump (14 feet, 1 inch), and Hallie Cournyer in the 300m hurdles (59.59). 

Bearcat Girls Take First at Three-Team Meet

Led by more than a few wins, the W.F. West girls track and field team won a three-team meet at Aberdeen — with Rochester also there — and the boys finished second behind Aberdeen Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors finished third as a team on both the girls and boys side, but picked up a few wins. 

W.F. West was led again by a strong showing from hurdler Emily Mallonee, who won the 300-meter hurdles in 55.12, and stepped outside the hurdles briefly to win the 800 meters in 2:53.74. 

Mallonee was also on the winning 4x400-meter relay team, which ran the 1600-meter race unopposed in 4:49.75, along with Wyatt Rogerson, Kaija Economou, and Amanda Bennett. 

The Bearcat girls also ran unopposed in the 4x100 and won in 1:00.52 with Reese Mishler, Grace Simpson, Economou, and Lauren Kelley. 

The Bearcats also picked up wins from Kelley in the 200 meters (29.72), Bennett in the javelin (97 feet, 6 inches), Ariana Wheaton in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), and Shelby Hazlett in the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches). 

The boys winners for the Bearcats included Emmett Imboden in the 110m hurdles (17.64) and 300m hurdles (45.18), Jack Muller in the javelin (101 feet, 5 inches), and Elijah Announen in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches). 

Rochester’s boys didn’t have a winner, but Ashton Rodriguez was again a standout in sprints, taking second in the 100-meter dash in 11.63. 



Savanna Riordan won the 100 for Rochester on the girls side in 14.58, and also helped the Warriors win the 4x200-meter relay, running the opening leg, with Kailyn Black, Kenna Pratt, and Mercedies Dupont running 1:56.90 as a team. 

Dupont also won the 1600 in  5:58.82, Kya Ubias won the 100-meter hurdles in 19.83, Emily Weddle won both the shot put (31 feet) and discus (87 feet, 5 inches), and Black won the long jump with a 13 foot, 7.5 inch leap. 

Beavers Have Solid Showing in Monte

Competing against Elma, Ilwaco, Kalama, North Beach, South Bend, and host Montesano, the Tenino boys and girls track teams had some solid showings Tuesday afternoon. 

On the girls side, Trinity Tafoya won the shot put with a 30 foot toss as the only winner for the Beavers. 

For the boys, Blaine Schott took home a win in the 100m in 11.97, and also finished second in the 200 in 24.52. 

Carson Schall had a similar run, winning the 110m hurdles in 17.11 and taking second in the 300m hurdles in 46.27. Andres Zamudio was the final Beaver winner, winning both the shot put (42 feet, 2 inches) and discus (106 feet, 4 inches). 

Rainier Hosts League Meet

With the most individual wins spread across area teams, the Rainier boys and girls track and field teams had a solid showing in a home meet with teams like Adna, Napavine, Pe Ell, and Mossyrock Tuesday afternoon. 

The Mountaineers did most of their damage on the field, like they typically do, with Matthew Kenney winning the discus (136 feet, 1 inch), James Meldrum winning the pole vault (11 feet), and Chase MacFarland winning the long jump (18 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (43 feet). 

Zach Hamilton also picked up a win in the 3200 (11:45.93) and Acacia Murphy was the lone girl to win for Rainier in the high jump (5 feet). 

Adna also picked up a few wins, with Cohen Hartley winning the 400 in 57.08, Jordan Stout winning the 800 in 2:02.37, and Lillian Boyd winning the discus with a 106 foot, 1.5 inch toss. The Adna girls 4x400-meter relay team of Ava Kempf, Mickey March, Sorena Neilson, and Karissa Larson also won in 4:53.00. 

Napavine earned five wins, led by Max O’Neill’s double-win for the boys in the 100m (11.52) and 200m (23.70), and Morgan Hamilton’s double-win in the 400m (1:06.63) and long jump (15 feet, 9 inches). Keira O’Neill also finished first in the triple jump (30 feet, 1 inch). 

Pe Ell’s hurdling dynamic duo of Carter Phelps and Charlie Carper swept again, with Phelps winning both the boys hurdling events in 16.78 in the 110m hurdles and in 42.94 in the 300m hurdles. Carper for the girls won the 100m hurdles in 17.66 and the 300m hurdles in 52.93. 

Mossyrock’s lone wins came from Hugo Wedam in the boys 1600m race (5:01.68) and Caelyn Marshall in the girls javelin (96 feet).
