Toledo’s Marty gets 3rd in State

Toledo’s Treyton Marty led the host of area runners in Pasco Saturday, placing third in the 1B/2B boys state cross country championship with a time of 16:32.80. 

It’s the second-fastest race Marty ran all fall, and the fastest against in-state competition.

Going out fast with the front of the pack, Marty covered the first mile in 5:02, just behind Dexter Delaney of Liberty Bell and Benjamin Morales of St. George’s. By the second mile, he had fallen behind those two by 20 seconds, and over the final stretch, Delaney lost Morales to win the title by over 40 with a time of 15:45.10.

Adna’s Jordan Stout placed fifth with a time of 16:37.30, second in a pack of three runners that all came in within two seconds of each other a bit behind Marty.

Next up for the area in the race with Winlock’s Chase Trodahl, who took 14th in 17:19.20. MWP’s Hunter Brackett (17:59.70) was 26th.



Oakville’s Cecil Gumalius, one of just two eighth graders in the 163-runner field, finished 59th in 18:35.70.

The only other top-10 finish for the area came in the 1B/2B girls’ race, where Rainier’s Madison Ingram (20:16.70) took eighth. Behind her, Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam was 32nd in 22:19.50, and fellow Mountaineer Angelica Askey was 34th in 22:34.10.

In the 1A girls race, Tenino’s Brynn Williams finished in 20:50.20 to claim 32nd, while her teammate on the boys’ side, Tristan Von Bargen, was 109th out of over 160 runners in 18:19.80.

Tumwater’s Annabelle Clapp led all local 2As with a 43rd-place time of 20:45.20 in the girls race, whilere her teammate Alexandra Broome finished a second and a half behind her at 20:46.60 to take 45th. 

In the boys’ 2A race, Tumwater’s Alan Penrose III was 46th in 17:09.30, with Reis Howell a few seconds behind him in 56th in 17:18.80. Rochester’ Gunnar Morgan (17:21.20) was 60th, Black Hills’ Truman Wimsett (17:40.40) and Luke Grunenfelder (17:43/50) were 73rd and 79th, respectively, and W.F. West’s Ezra Birchard (18:53.10) was 139th.
