Two people were hospitalized — one of them requiring helicopter transportation to a Seattle hospital — after a collision Tuesday night on U.S. Highway 12 south of Chehalis.

One driver, Anthony J. Weaver, 56, of Toledo was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Washington State Patrol.

According to a WSP press release, Weaver was traveling eastbound on Highway 12 near milepost 68 in a 1993 Cadillac Deville. A 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by a 72-year-old Castle Rock woman, was approaching from the opposite direction.

Weaver crossed the centerline and struck the oncoming vehicle head-on.

The woman was transported to Centralia Providence Hospital, while Weaver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

WSP believes that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
