As the school year wrapped up, the Toledo Community Foundation has had extraordinary support for Toledo students, according to a news release from the organization.

The foundation sent home 1,682 weekend food backpacks to Toledo students over the course of the year.

The community food barrel added another 500 pounds of food, all of which stays local to help families in need and will continue all year.

Throughout the year, support helped provide:

• Musical instruments for students who otherwise wouldn’t have access

• Field trip funding so every child could participate

• Nearly 800 new books for the Toledo Elementary Library through joint fundraising efforts

• Summer camp scholarships for kids who needed a boost

• School supplies for students and classrooms

• Sports and playground equipment to keep kids active and engaged

And many other essential needs identified throughout the year such as clothing, mental health support, health care items, and CTE- and business-related education, the release stated.

“Our hearts are full,” organizers said in the release. “This community steps up again and again. Every backpack, every book, every instrument, every opportunity it all adds up to kids who feel seen and supported.”

The Toledo Community Foundation is a 501c3 charitable foundation that exists to improve the quality of life and opportunities for our area youths in need while lessening the financial burden to the community, according to its website.

The purpose of the Toledo Community Foundation is to provide a flexible, informed and effective means for donors to provide charitable contributions for community school children in need.
