Toledo earned the No. 1 seed in the 2B State Tournament, and on Friday in Kelso, the Riverhawks looked the part.
They raced out to a massive lead early and never looked back in a 45-14 victory over No. 16 Columbia (Burbank) in the 2B Round of 16.
Eli Weeks opened the scoring on a 17-yard rushing touchdown, added a pick six moments later, and after Carter Swofford scored on a long touchdown run of his own, Weeks hit Adam Kruger for a 57-yard passing touchdown.
Before the first quarter was over, it was 30-0 Riverhawks.
“That’s what we attain to do,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “Just able to move the ball offensively and execute. Our guys really executed well.”
Weeks added another touchdown run in the second and hit Kruger for another score through the air in the third.
Weeks finished with 316 total yards and four total touchdowns, while Kruger hauled in five passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Carter Swofford added 139 yards and a touchdown on the ground on just nine attempts, and he had another long touchdown run wiped away by a penalty.
“One of the best 80-yard runs you'll ever see,” Christensen said while applauding Swofford. “He and Nico Acosta played their tails off.”
The top-seeded Riverhawks will be back in Kelso next Saturday, Nov. 22, to host No. 8 Napavine in a state quarterfinal.
