Playing on the road against a perennially strong, but rebuilding, 1A squad, the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley softball team squeaked past Montesano, 7-5, Monday.

Olivia Matlock threw another complete game, giving up just five runs, with just two earned, on eight hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts.

At the plate, Grace Huber knocked in two RBIs, Lauren Matlock added another, and Dani Shannon got on base every at-bat, going 2 for 2 with 2 walks and two runs scored.

“They always come ready to play,” Titans coach Ken Olson said. “It really helps us heading into districts, these kinds of back and forth games. Montesano is always tough. Not a lot of teams can go into Montesano and get nine hits.”

Shannon also had two doubles, and Ava Bush added a double of her own in a good day at the plate for the Titans. Olivia Matlock went 3 for 4.

The Titans will look to keep it going against another strong opponent, 1A Evergreen leader Eatonville and home-run hitter extraordinaire Hailey Rath on Wednesday in Pe Ell.
