The Morton-White Pass girls basketball team kicked it into gear to pull away from Wahkiakum on Thursday, rolling to a 62-33 victory.
The game was tied at 17 after the first quarter, but a quick switch on defense gave MWP the advantage in the second and beyond.
“We went from a 2-3 to a 1-2-2,” MWP coach Tim McCoy said. “Kind of pressured the guards a little bit more.”
The change worked. Over the final three quarters, the T-Wolves allowed just 16 points.
The offense did its part as well.
Ryelin Wiedenmann finished with a team-high 17 points, Layna Sams added 14, and Malia Armstrong finished with 10.
Samantha Lougee just missed double-figures with nine, and Chevy Fuller scored eight.
As a team, the T-Wolves shot 25 for 62 (40.3%) from the floor.
“We had some pretty balanced scoring, and we got a lot of shots up,” McCoy said. “I like that.”
MWP (2-0) will be in White Pass on Monday to host Kalama.
