Forty-nine points in the first half and taking quality shots allowed the Morton-White Pass girls basketball team to dominate Oakville and secure a 71-36 win in the first game of the winter for both teams.
First-year head coach Tim McCoy was pleasantly happy with how MWP (1-0) shot the ball. It went 28-of-73 from the field, but McCoy stated, “They were good shots, that was good to see.” Ryelin Wiedenmann led the way with 19 points while senior Malia Armstrong contributed 17.
Freshman Layna Sams added 13 in her varsity debut. Oakville (0-1) was paced by 21 points from Riyah Filitaula and Ui’lani Siufanua registered 11.
MWP will host Wahkiakum on Thursday while the Acorns welcome Mary M. Knight on Friday.
