Timberland Regional Library has announced its four headlining performers to entertain and educate the community as part of the 2025 Summer Library Program.
The free events will span five counties — Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Thurston — bringing talent and creativity directly to local communities for a total of 100 performances, according to a news release from Timberland Regional Library (TRL).
“This year’s lineup brings fresh energy to the Summer Library Program,” said Program Coordinator Kristen Hylton. “We’re excited to feature new performers and authors alongside returning favorites. These interactive programs invite participation, spark creativity, and offer meaningful ways to explore new cultures and ideas.”
According to the release, upcoming performers include:
• Drumming and storytelling with Javoen Byrd, from June 3 to 13. Olympia-based musician and ethnomusicologist Javoen Byrd kicks off summer with an exploration of West African and African American drumming traditions. Attendees of all ages will learn the language of the drum and explore cultural history in this participatory experience.
• Meet young adult author Vanessa L. Torres from July 15 to 23. Join Vanessa L. Torres, Olympia-based author of “On the Wings of la Noche,” for a fun and inspiring author talk. Vanessa shares the story behind her newest book, answers questions and encourages young writers to tell their own stories, the release stated.
• Meet children’s author and illustrator Ellie Peterson from July 15 to Aug. 15. Families will enjoy this creative program with local author and illustrator Ellie Peterson. Each event features a storytime, live drawing and writing prompts for kids. Explore books like “How to Hug a Pufferfish” and “Sandcastles Are Forever” in an interactive setting for all ages.
• Found in the Stars with Professor Universe from Aug. 4 to 15. Hosted by Dallas Akins — also known as Professor Universe — in a science-filled space adventure for the whole family. Kids help Professor Universe journey through the stars and learn space science concepts through theatrical storytelling and memorable characters.
In addition to this year’s headlining performers, Timberland Regional Library is bringing back several acts. Returning acts include:
• The Reptile Lady — Live reptiles and fascinating facts for all ages
• Creature Teachers — An up-close look at reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates
• Jeff Evans’ Reading Magic Show — Magic, comedy and the power of reading
• enTaiko Japanese Drumming — A high-energy performance rooted in tradition
