In its first game in the 2026 calendar year, the Napavine boys basketball team picked up where it left off in 2025 with a dominant 90-57 victory against Morton-White Pass in Morton Friday night.
Napavine sizzled on offense, putting up at least 21 points in every quarter to finish with its second 90-point outing of the young season. Senior Tyce Vigre continued his hot scoring stretch with a game-high 21 points. Five other Tigers scored in double figures, led by Hudson Chambers with 17, Cal Bullock and Tyler Watson with 13 apiece, and Layton Griffith and Eric Bullock with 12 apiece.
Despite the 33-point loss, MWP head coach Kevin Dunlap was quite impressed with the way his team competed against a perennial 2B contender in Napavine.
“I liked our effort. We played way harder than we have. I didn’t have much negative to say. There’s obviously things to fix, but everybody in the gym recognized the effort,” Dunlap said.
Dunlap credited senior Kohen Ingalsbe, who scored 20 points, for playing his best game of the season for the T-Wolves. He said his team could have competed more if four guards didn’t run into foul trouble, but he believes this game can give his squad some confidence down the stretch.
“We’ve had a lot of time to focus on us and figure out which direction we want to head. We’ve talked a lot about confidence. We want to send a message to the league that we are here to compete,” he said. “We’re athletic enough to run and compete with teams in the league.”
Sebastian Gonzalez tallied 17 points to rank second on the T-Wolves in scoring, with Gabriel Lisowski (seven), Owen Loucks (six), Logan Mays (five) and Michael Biacan (two) also adding to the scoreboard.
Napavine (6-0, 4-0 Central 2B League) will finish its road trip next week with visits to Winlock (2-7, 1-5 C2BL) Tuesday night and Toledo (3-0, 3-0 C2BL) Thursday night.
MWP (0-7, 0-5 C2BL) gets right back to work with a home non-league game against Coupeville Saturday night before three more league bouts next week.
“I’m really hoping we can get our first win tomorrow. I told our guys to get a good night’s rest and come with energy tomorrow,” Dunlap said.
