Tigers use five-run third to top Ducks

The Napavine softball team rode a big fifth-inning to a win over Toutle Lake, as the Tigers defeated the Ducks 6-4 on Friday.

Toutle Lake led 2-0 early, but the Tigers were able to get on the board in the bottom of the second to go into the third down 2-1.

After a walk and an error, Grace Pancake gave Napavine the lead with a three-run home run.

“That was a big hit for us,” Napavine coach Josh Fay said. “And there was not a lot of doubt. It got out.”

Clara Fay later added a RBI double later in the inning, and another run came in to score on an error. She went on to add a triple and finished 2 for 3 at the plate.

Hannah Fay pitched the complete game in the circle, and while Josh Fay said it wasn’t her best outing, she got a boost from the early offensive surge.

“You could kind of see her body language change with the lead,” Josh Fay said. “She did a good job.”

Fay got some defensive help from eighth-grader Tarynn Dalebout at the end of the game, when Dalebout made an impressive running catch in right field to record the final out.

“I ran out to meet her, and I don’t run much anymore,” Josh Fay joked with a laugh. “When we can get stuff like that going, we’ll be alright.”

Napavine (8-4, 4-1 C2BL) will head to Winlock on Monday.
