Tigers undercut Warriors in dual home match

The Centralia and Rochester boys golf teams see each other a lot at Riverside Golf Course, as the two schools share the course as their home turf, and practice alongside each other near every day.

Wednesday, the Tigers and Warriors met up with stakes, and Centralia took the friendly 2A EvCo matchup 231-283.

“It’s kind of cool,” Rochester coach Eric Holmkvist said. “Not like a scrimmage, but it’s a fun match playing against kids you know.”

The big story for Centralia came at the top of the card, where reigning district champion Von Wasson made a delayed debut after missing the beginning of the season with an injury. The senior picked up a triple bogey at one point, but shook it off and still came in carding a 39 to beat the field by nine strokes.

“That’s pretty impressive,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said.

Behind Wasson, Colby Christensen carded a 45, Tyler Fagerness came in at 47, and Brady Sprague and Tucker Weaver both finished on 50.

“Probably the strength of what we did was that we all shot okay,” Gronseth said, “Nobody shot fantastic, but we had five scores that were okay… That’s encouraging.”

Freshman Boden Grimm led Rochester at 48. Cooper Rodehaver finished at 50, Cash Edminster shot a 60, Gavin Revel carded a 61 and Daniel Dugas finished on 64.

Centralia will stay at Riverside and turn around to face Aberdeen on Thursday, while Rochester will be off until next Monday, when it hosts W.F. West.
