Tigers top Wolves in another close match

The Centralia boy’s golf team eked out a win over Black Hills at Riverside Golf Course on Thursday, beating the Wolves 235-244.

Von Wasson led the way once again for the Tigers, shooting one over par with a 37. Tucker Weaver shot a 47, Tyler Fagerness scored a 48, and Brady Sprague ended the day with a 53.

Sixth-man Jake Johnson stepped up, scoring a 50, which Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said was some much-needed insurance for the Tigers.

“When the scores are that close, that’s around where he should be and he contributed to the win,” Gronseth said.

Jack Casler matched Wasson’s 37 to lead the Wolves, and Phoenix Flores shot a 44.

The next three Wolves were all above 50, however, as Ezra Harris’ 53, Simon Nysted’s 54, and Ethan Badger’s 56 was too much to stay below 235.

It’s the second time this season that the Tigers have topped the Wolves by less than ten, as in the middle of September, they beat out Black Hills by a similar score, 236-245.

Both the Tigers and Wolves are back in action on Monday, when Centralia will head to Newaukum Valley in Chehalis to take on W.F. West and Black Hills will host Aberdeen at Tumwater Valley.
