The Napavine boys basketball team defeated Onalaska for the second time on Tuesday, sweeping the season series with a 79-59 win.
The Tigers started hot for the second night in a row, scoring 25 points in the first to build a double-digit lead.
“It’s kind of been our thing,” Onalaska coach Fred Sturza said of the slow start. “And we’ve talked about that. What do we need to do to come out a little more locked in? Especially against a team like that. You can’t afford to give up 25 points and try to get back in the game.”
The Loggers were able to settle in, keeping pace throughout the next three quarters, but Napavine was able to do enough to maintain the lead it built early on.
“I was definitely proud of that second-quarter adjustment,” Sturza said. “I was really proud of the fight. There was a sense of ‘we can really play with these guys.’ We just need to play a full four quarters.”
Karsen Denault scored a team-high 20 points while adding five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals, while Jack Nelson scored 17 points and hauled in seven rebounds.
Beckett Landram and Hudson Chambers both scored 13 points, and Chambers added nine rebounds and three steals. Cal Bullock added eight points.
Blaze Underhill and Justin Jacoby led the Loggers by both scoring 16 points. Jacoby also added four rebounds and four steals, and Maddox McKinley scored nine points.
Case McGraw scored eight points and dished out three assists, while Ethan Thayer grabbed a team-high six rebounds and scored two points of his own.
Both teams will be home for league games on Thursday, when Napavine (11-2, 8-1 C2BL) will host Mossyrock and Onalaska (6-8, 4-6 C2BL) will welcome Morton-White Pass.
