Tigers take out Bulldogs in non-league win

The Centralia girls soccer team came home with a statement of a non-league win Saturday, beating 1A semifinalists Montesano 1-0 at Jack Rottle Field.

“I was proud of all the players today, especially because it was Homecoming weekend,” first-year coach Luis Magana Reyna said. “All of them showed up and came to play.”

The Tigers (6-2, 4-1 2A EvCo) got their goal in the first half, on a free kick from Olivia Gruginski.

Other than that, the day belonged to the Bulldogs in every category but the one that mattered. Montesano owned possession and peppered 12 shots on frame, but Centralia keeper Braylee Blankenship was equal to all of them.

“She kept us in the game the whole time,” Magana Reyna said.

It’s Centralia’s fifth straight win, and their sixth of the season, eclipsing their win total from all of last fall.

The Tigers will take on Aberdeen on the road Tuesday, in the final match of their first trip through the 2A EvCo.

“I’m just hoping we keep building on this momentum,” Magana Reyna said.
