Tigers Take Care of Road Business in Toutle

The Napavine girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead, exploded offensively out of halftime, and put the clamps down in the fourth quarter to beat Toutle Lake 69-23 on Friday in Central 2B League play.

“This was a great team win,” coach Shane Schutz said. “We are just getting better and better each game.”

Junior Grace Gall led the Tigers in just about every area, racking up 15 points, grabbing 13 rebounds — nine on the offensive glass — and sharing the team high with four assists, three steals, and a block. Hayden Kaut and Avery Schutz both added 13 points, and Morgan Hamilton had 12 and seven boards. Schutz hit four 3-pointers, while Gall and Kaut both nailed three.

The Tigers held their hosts to single digits in each of the first two quarters, going into halftime with a 33-13 lead. Out of the break, the Ducks finally managed to hit 10, but Napavine nearly doubled its point total in half of the time, dropping 28 points in the third quarter.

The offense slowed down for Napavine in a quieter fourth quarter, but the Tigers stopped it entirely for the Ducks, who stayed on 23 points the entire period.

Napavine (3-2, 2-0 C2BL) will take the weekend off and come back to action next Wednesday, home against Toledo.
