Tigers take care of Riverhawks behind balanced offense

The Napavine boys basketball team put out yet another dominant performance in Central 2B League play at home Thursday, beating Toledo 70-46.

“It was just a solid game,” Napavine coach Rex Stanley said. “I don’t think we shot as well as we have been, but we were able to get some buckets in transition and score in some other ways, which was nice.”

James Grose had 25 points to hold his usual spot of leading the Tigers (3-0, 3-0 C2BL) on offense, but Karsen Denault came in not too far behind him with 16 in his best game of the young season.

“It was nice to see Karsen get going tonight,” Stanley said. “He was battling a little foul trouble at Toutle on Tuesday. Getting him going offensively is big for us.”

Cal Bullock and Jarin Prather both added seven points for Napavine, which led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter and 39-20 at halftime.

Kaven Winters scored 15 points for the Riverhawks (5-2, 1-1 C2BL), but the Tigers held him to just seven through the first three quarters. Rogan Stanley pitched in 10 points, and Cooper Fallon led the guests with eight rebounds.

Napavine forced Toledo to turn the ball over 27 times, sparking the offense in transition.

Both the Tigers and Riverhawks are set for non-league games Saturday. Napavine — which started its season with its C2BL opener — will get its first non-leaguer of the season when it takes on La Center, and Toledo will play Ocosta.
