On the East side of the state, the Napavine High School baseball team got tested and lost in two different ways, dropping a 5-4 heartbreaker to Kittitas and a 13-1, five-inning contest against Asotin on Saturday afternoon.

Kittitas, another unbeaten in Class 2B, rallied down 4-3 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single and run-scoring fielder’s choice. Napavine (8-2) only got two runners on base in the last two innings.

The Tigers tied the game at 3-3 without a ball leaving the infield. They drew four walks plus a hit by a pitch all with two outs, then in the fifth, a Cal Bullock RBI single gave them a one-run cushion.

Grady Wilson notched four stolen bases and scored twice while Beckett Landram’s two hits went for extra bases.

Napavine succumbed to four errors versus Asotin in what started as a 1-1 game after one inning turned into a rout. The Panthers tallied six runs in the bottom of the third and fourth frames to enact the run-rule.

Chase Shea registered the only hit for the Tigers. Cal Bullock, after taking his first loss on the mound, scored the lone run plus stole a base.

Napavine resumes play on April 14 on the road against Kalama.
