Tigers Stifle Raiders, Hold on Late to Vault into State Quarterfinals

It was far from pretty for either side, with shooting numbers in the 30% range, but that was just how the No. 6 Napavine boys basketball team liked it Saturday night in Wenatchee, defeating No. 3 Lake Roosevelt, 64-59, to earn a berth into the 2B State Quarterfinals.

The Tigers rode that defense after a hot start, holding the Raiders to just 14 points combined in both the second and third quarters while scoring 23 points themselves in that same time frame.

Though the Raiders made a late run, nearly doubling their scoring total in the fourth quarter with 21 points, the Tigers did enough to hold on and advance into the Elite Eight of the 2B Tournament.

James Grose and Jarin Prather were the lone Tigers in double figures, with Grose scoring 15 points and hauling in 10 rebounds, and Prather adding 13 points. Jack Nelson came off the bench and gave good energy again with foul trouble mounting, racking up eight boards and scoring two points.

The win sets the Tigers up with a quarterfinal game on Thursday at Spokane Arena at 12:15 p.m. against Brewster, Auburn Adventist, or Tri-Cities Prep.
