Tigers split doubleheader with Mules

After Wednesday’s game between Napavine and Wahkiakum was suspended in the fourth inning, the Tigers and Mules were able to resume play Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Napavine controlled the remainder of Game 1, cruising to a 7-1 victory, but the Mules walked-off the Tigers in Game 2 to split the doubleheader.

The Tigers (4-4, 4-4 C2BL) did most of the work in Game 1 on Wednesday, when they scored seven in the first two innings to take a 7-0 lead. Ashton Demarest didn’t allow a hit in four innings of work, and on Friday, Conner Holmes also had success on the bump.

He pitched three innings, allowing just one hit and one run to finish off the win.

Game 2 was more back-and-forth, as the Mules took a 1-0 lead in the first and made it 3-0 in the third before Napavine responded with one in the fourth and two in the seventh to tie the game.

A walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh was enough to give the Mules the win.

Cal Bullock pitched six innings in the nightcap, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out 10. Holmes and Jack Nelson both recorded a double and drove in a run.

The Tigers are off until after Spring Break, as they’ll be back in action on Monday, April 8 for a doubleheader against Morton-White Pass.
