Tigers pull away for dominant win over Chinooks

The Napavine girls basketball team may have suffered its first loss on Saturday, but they bounced back on Wednesday with a big 69-28 win over Kalama.

The Chinooks held their own in the first quarter, as the Tigers (7-1, 4-0 C2BL) held just a four-point lead heading into the second.

The second quarter was better offensively for Napavine, as the Tigers scored 23 points, but Kalama stayed within striking distance and trailed by 13 at the break.

Napavine pulled away in the third, however, and allowed just four points in the entirety of the second half.

“We came out very flat and uninspired,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “We responded well in the second half. We just need to come ready to play each night and expect everyone’s best effort.”

Four Tigers finished in double figures offensively, led by Jessie McCoy’s 16 and Hayden Kaut’s 15.

Napavine will now prepare to face off against two schools from the East side, as they’ll welcome Brewster on Friday and Mabton on Saturday.
