Fueled by a 16-5 advantage in the third quarter, Centralia High School’s girls basketball team secured a 54-30 win over Hockinson on Tuesday night on the road.
It took until almost Christmas last year for the Tigers (1-0) to win their first game of the season. Brooklyn Sprague’s 19-point outburst led the way and Aniela Gunn chipped in 14. Sixteen of Sprague’s points came from the free throw line.
Leading by one after the opening frame, Centralia outscored Hockinson 46-23 the rest of the way. Maddie Ahern added nine points for the Tigers, who made just three 3-pointers.
Centralia will host Woodland on Friday night in the home opener.
