The Centralia softball team’s defense came out a bit rusty after spring break Wednesday in a 9-3 loss to Aberdeen in Grays Harbor, committing seven costly errors in its first defeat of the season.

The Tigers couldn’t overcome their defensive mistakes, and a four-hit performance at the plate against Bobcat ace Lilly Camp, falling for the first time in the early year on the road.

At the plate, Makayla Chavez was the only Tiger to log multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and a double, and Judy Vallejo and Jimena Luis each knocked in runs on base hits.

Peyton Smith got the start in the circle and threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up nine runs but with just four earned on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Hollynn Wakefield pitched the final out of the sixth, recording a strikeout and giving up a single hit.

Camp countered with a gem for Aberdeen, pitching a complete game with just one of the three runs scored earned on four hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.

The Tigers will look to bounce back, keeping the show on the road against Shelton on Friday.
