Tigers can’t hold lead, lose to Shelton

One good quarter on offense wasn’t enough for the Centralia boys basketball team on Tuesday, which lost 49-36 to Shelton at home in 2A EvCo action.

Sixteen of the Tigers’ 36 points came in the second quarter, which helped push them overcome a first quarter in which they only managed five to go into halftime up 21-19. But the offense didn’t carry over out of the break, and the hosts managed just 15 points the rest of the way, losing the lead toward the end of the third quarter and then watching the Highclimbers end the game on a 16-5 run.

Landen Jenkins led the Tigers with 11 points and six rebounds. David Daarud added nine points, and Cohen Ballard had eight.

Centralia will go a few miles south to take on W.F. West in the first of two Swamp Cup matchups this season.
