The Napavine girls basketball team didn’t need long to take control against Mossyrock on Tuesday, as the Tigers pulled away quickly and rolled to a 57-35 victory.
Napavine led by 12 after one, 19 after two, and 25 after three.
The Tigers turned the ball over 10 fewer times than the Vikings, and they out-rebounded the Mossyrock 39-23.
“We gave up too many transition points because of those two things,” Mossyrock coach Nick Rashoff said. “Our effort wasn’t bad and we played decent in the first half, but giving up lay-ins because of the turnovers took us out of the game … It’s a good learning experience for us.”
Taylen Evander led Napavine with 18 points, while Hayden Kaut added 14 and recorded seven rebounds and four steals.
Nicholle Valentine scored six points and nabbed four steals, while Ava Ondong and Jessie McCoy both scored five. McCoy tallied six rebounds and four steals, while Ondong brought down six rebounds and grabbed two steals of her own.
Mossyrock’s Chesney Schultz scored 15 points while also adding seven rebounds and three assists, while Kendall Cournyer scored six points.
Maci Rashoff scored five points, and Taylor Schwartz added four points and four rebounds.
Mossyrock (7-7, 2-2 C2BL) will head to Toutle Lake on Thursday, while Napavine (12-4, 4-1 C2BL) will have the rest of the week off before heading to Rainier next Tuesday, Jan. 28.
