The Napavine girls basketball team got back in the win column in a big way on Monday, running away with a 63-15 win over Tumwater.
The Tigers took a 21-point lead in the first quarter, led by 29 at the break, and extended it to 48 by the end of the third.
Napavine shot just 29.7 percent from the floor in the first half, but shot 15 of 20 from the charity stripe. In the second half, the Tigers shot nearly 50 percent from the field.
“I thought our girls came out at halftime ready to go and more confident,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “Our offensive flow was a lot better, as was our shot selection.”
Hayden Kaut led Napavine with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Taylen Evander scored 10 points and Ava Ondong added eight. Evander also dished out three assists to lead the team.
Hannah Fay and Jessie McCoy were ball hawks defensively, combining for 11 of Napavine’s 21 steals. The Tigers finished the night with 32 points off 31 Tumwater turnovers.
Anden Demaris led the Thunderbirds with five points and six rebounds, while Dakota Cahill scored four points and grabbed five boards.
Both teams are back on Tuesday, as Napavine (2-1) will return home to face Aberdeen while Tumwater (1-2) will host Todd Beamer.
