The Centralia girls soccer team opened EvCo play with a dominant win on Thursday, when the Tigers blew out Shelton 6-0 on the turf at Tiger Stadium.
Centralia coach Luis Magana said that usually the Tigers start slow, but Eva Reinitz gave Centralia a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game after intercepting a pass in the box.
Just eight minutes later, Trinity Smith scored on a ball that went down off the post and back out of the goal, but the assistant referee saw it cross the goal line before bouncing out and awarded the goal.
Just 11 minutes in, the Tigers were up 2-0.
“I am very proud of how the girls came out,” Magana said. “We came out guns blazing.”
Izabella Hernandez made it 3-0 before the break with a goal in the 31st, but Centralia wasn’t done scoring.
“The halftime message was ‘don’t let up,’” Magana said.
Smith and Emma Ferch took turns helping each other score in the second half. In the 46th minute, Ferch assisted Smith’s second goal, and Smith assisted Ferch in the 55th.
Just two minutes after Ferch’s goal, Ferch again assisted Smith, who polished off the first hat trick of her high school career.
Ana Blankenship added an assist on Hernandez’s goal, and Nena Venegas-Minor made three saves in net.
Magana gave credit to Venegas-Minor and his back line — Dina Silca, Megan Tokstad, Jaydon Krogness, and Lilly Gruginski — along with the offense for their efficiency throughout.
“They followed the game play and they played very organized,” Magana said. “Everyone seems to be on the same page … The chemistry is there and we hope to continue to build on that.”
Centralia (3-4, 1-0 2A EvCo) will be at home again on Tuesday to host Aberdeen.
