Tigers blow out Eagles early

The Napavine girls basketball team welcomed 1A Elma to Tiger Town on Saturday and wasted no time in a one-route, jumping out to a huge lead quickly and rolling to a 69-26 non-league win.

“(It’s the) second game in a row I felt like we came out ready to play from the start,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said.

The Tigers (13-1, 6-0 C2BL) dropped 31 points in the first quarter alone, and steamrolled their way to a 46-13 lead at the break. On defense, Napavine held its guests to eight points in the third quarter, and few than that in all the others.

Hayden Kaut finished 9 for 14 from the field to rack up a game-high 23 points, and also had four steals and a pair of blocks on defense.

Keira O’Neill added 15 points, four boards, three steals and two blocks.

“Keira sparked us inside and with her effort,” Schutz said.

Taylen Evander pitched in 13 points and five assists.

The Tigers now face the most consequential week of their regular season, starting with a Tuesday game at home against similarly-undefeated-in-league Rainier on Tuesday and continuing with a rivalry matchup at Adna on Thursday.
