Tigers blanked by Chinooks, settle for second in league

The Napavine girls soccer team’s Wednesday evening to cap off the regular season began with its bus breaking down on the freeway, and never got much better from there.

After spending over an hour on the side of I-5, right around the junction with Highway 12, a replacement bus finally came to get the Tigers the remaining way to Kalama, where the undefeated Chinooks dealt them a 5-0 loss.

The result gives Kalama — which ended the league season outscoring opponents 73-0 — the Central 2B League championship, while the Tigers (10-3-3, 8-1-1 C2BL) will take second place into the upcoming district tournament.

Napavine finished with just one shot on the night, while keeper Taylen Evander stopped 15 of the 20 shots on target that came her way.

Bridgette Hollifield put in a hat trick to lead the Chinooks, who went into halftime up 5-0.

The Tigers will host the No. 7 team from the C2BL — either Ocosta, Toutle Lake or Toledo, depending on tiebreakers — Monday to open district play.
