Thurston County Tallies 170 COVID-19 Cases, One Death

New cases of COVID-19 in Thurston County saw a decrease as the health department reported 170 new cases and one death during the period of March 28 through April 3.

The death reported during the week included a woman in her 40s.

The prior week there were 210 COVID-19 cases and seven deaths reported between March 21 and March 27.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) no longer reports death percentages.

Out of the 45,417 total county cases reported by April 4, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 45,117, according to the county health department.

As of April 5, the DOH reported a total of 2,202 COVID-related hospitalizations in Thurston County.



Health care workers have vaccinated 65% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.

In neighboring Pierce County, deaths landed at .4 per 100,000 population, and new cases decreased to 70.8 per 100,000 population as of April 5, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The total number of cases in the county reached 191,651 as of April 5 with 1,375 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of April 5, there were 1,458,424 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 59,333 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 12,515 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 13 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of April 5, there were 79,991,833 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 979,108 confirmed deaths and 81.9% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New cases over the last 30 days have been on a downward trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days are also on a steady downward trend, CDC graphs indicated.
