Thurston County reported a decrease in COVID-19 cases as the health department tallied 716 new cases and 10 deaths during the period of May 23 through May 29.
The deaths included two women in their 50s, a man and a woman in their 70s, two women and a man in their 80s, and two men and a woman in their 90s.
The prior week there were 807 COVID-19 cases reported between May 16 and May 22.
Out of the 49,381 total county cases reported by May 31, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 48,227, according to the county health department.
As of May 31, the county health department reported a total of 2,345 COVID-related hospitalizations and 379 deaths in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.
Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.
In neighboring Pierce County, deaths landed at .4 per 100,000 population, and new cases were up, at 272.1 per 100,000 population as of May 31, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The total number of cases in the county reached 203,594 as of May 31 with 1,426 deaths, according to DOH.
In Washington state, as of May 31, there were 1,573,651 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 62,281 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 12,919 people have died, according to DOH.
Over 13.6 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.
Nationwide, as of May 31, there were 83,712,396 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 1,001,313 confirmed deaths and 82.7% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New cases over the last 30 days have been on a slow upwards trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days are on a steady downward trend, CDC graphs indicated.
