Thurston County Reports 533 New COVID-19 Cases

Thurston County reported a decrease in COVID-19 cases, but an uptick in deaths during the period of July 3 through July 9.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the health department tallied 533 new cases and 12 deaths.

The deaths included a man in his 30s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 60s, four men in their 70s, two men in their 80s, and two women and a man in their 90s.

The previous week there were 779 cases reported and two deaths between July 27 to July 2. 

Out of the 53,269 total county cases reported by July 11, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 51,695, according to the county health department.

As of July 11, the county health department reported a total of 2,522 COVID-related hospitalizations and 410 deaths in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.



Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.

In neighboring Pierce County, deaths per 100,000 population couldn’t be calculated because less than 10 people died, and new cases were down at 228.6 per 100,000 population as of July 12, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

The total number of cases in the county reached 216,541 as of July 12, with 1,443 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of July 12, there were 1,692,004 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 66,691 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 13,362 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 14 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of July 12, there were 88,424,802 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 1,016,293 confirmed deaths and 83.2% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
