Thurston County Man, 36, Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision

A 36-year-old man from Yelm died at the scene of a fatal collision on state Route 510 on Tuesday, Feb. 21. 

Scott B. Brown, the driver of a 2002 tan Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Washington State Patrol memo. Brown was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt. 

The crash occurred at about 9 p.m. at milepost 11 of state Route 510, south of the Nisqually Indian Community.

Brown was traveling westbound on state Route 510 when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Joash Aini, 30, of Yelm, which was traveling eastbound. 



Brown’s vehicle came to a rest in the ditch on the westbound side of the highway, while the 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Aini came to a rest in the distch on the eastbound side. Aini was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, according to WSP.

The cause of the accident was determined to be driving the wrong way. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, according to WSP. 

The roadway was blocked for two hours and 45 minutes.
