Thurston County deputies end pursuit near Rochester in 35 seconds, arresting felon

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) ended a pursuit in the Rochester area on Monday, Oct. 5, in a record 35 seconds.

Deputies had responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the early morning hours. When they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver allegedly fled on U.S. Highway 12.

Deputies deployed a grappler, bringing the vehicle to a quick stop.

The driver was taken into custody without incident.



Deputies searched the vehicle, which had been stolen out of Pierce County along with firearms, and found a firearm inside.

Upon his arrest, deputies learned that the driver was a 13-time convicted felon who was currently wanted out of Thurston County for second-degree theft and out of Pierce County for unlawful imprisonment, domestic violence.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail for his warrants and for new crimes of attempting to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspect’s rap sheet includes seven felony burglary convictions and seven misdemeanor convictions for crimes such as possessing burglary tools, making false statements and driving on a suspended license.

“This arrest and capture undoubtedly prevented the burglary of a Rochester area home,” Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
