The Tumwater football team earned a dominant victory over Black Hills in the annual Pioneer Bowl, rolling to a 63-13 victory.
As a team, the T-Birds outgained the Wolves 450-147, and they scored in all three phases of the game.
“It was a great atmosphere,” Tumwater coach William Garrow said. “The Tumwater community was great, and the student sections were loud. I thought our kids did a nice job overall last night. It was great to see our young guys get a bunch of snaps and watch them perform under the lights in front of their families as well.”
Five different players — Tyler Briscoe, Grady Wall, Peyton Davis, Jayden Hinchcliffe, and Joey Haase — hit paydirt on the ground, and Wall also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Jaxon Budd added 110 yards and a touchdown through the air on just three attempts.
For the third straight game, a Tumwater defensive lineman returned an interception for a touchdown.
Two weeks ago against Nooksack Valley, it was Nate Lowery, and in last week’s win over Union and Friday’s win, it was Landon Anchors who posted a pick-six.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before in three straight games,” Garrow said.
Anchors also added seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, and Hinchcliffe tallied nine tackles, including one TFL.
Gavin Kaikkonen had seven tackles, Wyatt Chase had six, and Vann Hannukaine had a tackle for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery.
Tumwater (5-1, 1-0 2A EvCo) will host Aberdeen next week, while Black Hills (2-4, 1-1 2A EvCo) will have its league bye. The Wolves will head to Elma to face the Eagles.
