Nothing came easy for the Tumwater volleyball team Monday, but the Thunderbirds pulled out three tough sets after dropping their first to Timberline in a 19-25, 31-29, 27-25, 25-21 win.
“It was a good one tonight for sure,” Tumwater coach Molly Cichosz said. “Our passing was on point the whole game, but our offense struggled a bit at the beginning.”
The Thunderbirds (2-1) hit negative in the first set, but improved each set thereafter, finishing with a .267 clip in the fourth — their only win to come in the normal 25 points.
Natalie Montoya led the T-Birds with 14 kills; Whitney Van Gorkom added eight, and Paige Henderson had seven.
Brooklyn Hayes finished with a team-high 27 digs and also posted four kills, while Lalie Betschart (17), Emily Robello (15), and Bri Zavala (11) all logged double-digit digs as well.
Betschart posted five aces at the service line, and Robello handed out 45 assists.
Tumwater will go to Centralia for its 2A EvCo opener Tuesday.
