Thunderbirds Drop First Game Against 4A Mount Si

In a back and forth contest from start to finish, the Tumwater girls basketball team fell for the first time all season in a non-league tournament game against 4A Mount Si, 65-58.

The T-Birds had already prevailed over two other 4A squads this season — Woodinville and Bethel — but couldn’t make it three in a row in their first loss.

Tumwater had trouble out of the gate, scoring just nine points in the opening frame, before opening up the offense the rest of the game. But in the second half, the Wildcats unleashed the floodgates on the Thunderbirds, scoring 41 points in the latter half, alone.

Kylie Waltermeyer had another strong game for the T-Birds, scoring 20 points, with Aubrey Amendala the only other Thunderbird in double figures with 13.

Tumwater will look to bounce back as league play gets in full swing when it takes on rival Black Hills at home on Tuesday at  6 p.m.
