Alyana Leal and the No. 3 doubles team of Aubrey Prigmore and Joy Pluard claimed third set victories to secure three-set wins over their Black Hills foes to ignite W.F. West to a 6-0 Evergreen Conference win on Friday afternoon.
Leal, a district qualifier last spring, pulled out a 6-3 win in the final set to upend Kristen Beaulieu. Prigmore and Pluard dominated the final set 6-1 to beat Riana Johnstone and Hanna Bergferd. The three Bearcat players won the first set 6-2 and lost the second 4-6.
“Each three recovered, reset and finished the match well,” W.F. West head coach Megan Wellander said. “I’m proud of both of the teams for battling in the heat, making adjustments and getting refocused again.”
The top two singles in the Bearcats lineup – Emma Hamilton and Emery Dalrymple – combined to lose just one game in straight set wins. Manta Ceesay and Ellie Mittge won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while Katelyn Wood and Lilly Hueffed cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Black Hills will face county rival Tumwater while W.F. West treks to Aberdeen, both contests scheduled for Monday.
