TENINO - The weather cooperated Saturday and the South Sound Speedway is off to a flying start.

Bill Hansel continued to dominate the Mini Stocks as he picked up his second win of the season last Saturday with Marc Nelson second followed by Norm Steelhammer, Richard Smith and Tabatha Bracale.

Cody Erskine clocked in the fast time for the Street Stocks and then walked away with his first victory of 2007. Scott Johnson dominated the Pure Stocks as he set the fast time, won the heat race and then won the main event. Ron Mason was second in the Pure Stocks main event followed by Rick Casebolt, Shannon Chase, Jake Haider, and Jay Henderson.

Brad Newbury returned in style by winning the BumbleBee race. Ron Anctil was second behind Newbury with Eric Franson third.

There is plenty of racing on tap for Saturday as the Quality Car Care Limited Late Models will take to the 3/8-mile oval along with Vintage Modifieds, Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks, Baby Grands, Mini Cups and Future Stars.

The gates open at 4:45 p.m. with qualifying set for 5 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m.

Fans to the speedway should notice a few changes this season. The biggest change for fans will be a new sound system, that was put in at the end of the 2006 season. Fans will also be a little safer thanks to the completion of a front-stretch wall that has raised the wall to three feet, a foot higher to keep cars on the track.

The track improvements weren't just for the fans as new lighting was put in to eliminate dark spots in some spots.

An electronic transponder systems was installed to help with scoring of the cars.
