The Owl & Cedar, located in the former Hub City Music building at 113 S. Tower Ave. in downtown Centralia, officially opened its doors to the public on Feb. 4.

As the latest addition to the historic downtown district’s lively roster of storefronts, The Owl & Cedar aims to function as a community gathering space as well as a fantasy-themed cafe and non-alcoholic tavern specializing in locally-roasted coffee, handcrafted natural sodas and Jun kombucha.

Although making its debut as downtown Centralia’s latest attraction, The Owl & Cedar is the brick-and-mortar evolution of Owl & Cedar Homestead, founded by Centralia residents Austin and Stephanie Eschenwald. Since 2022, Austin and Stephanie have used their business to sell a variety of unique products with a foundational commitment to sustainable practices, unmatched quality and a flair for the fantastical. The husband-and-wife homesteaders frequently vend their products at local farmers’ markets and fantasy festivals, catering to coffee connoisseurs and Renaissance Faire enthusiasts alike, according to a news release from the business.

In addition to serving its rotating menu of unique beverages and customer favorites, The Owl & Cedar has partnered with various local businesses and community members to offer baked goods, hors d’oeuvres, alternating in-house retailers and a calendar of events including live music and workshops.

“Our vision is to create a tavern like something out of a fantasy book,” Austin said in the release. “We thought it would be the perfect place for people to sit, play tabletop games and enjoy a line of taps for our Jun and sodas.”

The Owl & Cedar’s operating hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. A grand opening event will take place in June. Details and an exact date will be announced later this month, according to a news release.
