The Lewis County Board of Commissioners selected The Chronicle as the county’s official paper of record for the second year in a row this week.

The county commissioners approved the selection of The Chronicle as the county’s legal paper of record during the board's standard business meeting on Tuesday morning.

The Chronicle was one of two bidding papers and offered the lowest bid price.

In its request for bids for a legal paper of record, Lewis County asked businesses to submit a printing cost per column inch at 8-point type size. The county also requested that bidders provide a price for printing a sample text.

The Chronicle was declared the lowest responsive bidder and awarded the contract after submitting a bid price of $3.80 per column inch at 8-point font — the same bid The Chronicle submitted the year prior. The total price to print the sample provided by the county came out to $30.02.

The only competing bidder, DeVaul Publishing, which operates the East Lewis County Journal, submitted a responsive bid price of $8.33 per column inch, and the total sample bid price came to $64.56. The East County Journal previously served as the county’s newspaper of record in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

The contract for serving as the county’s legal paper of record begins on the first day of July, according to the resolution approved by the Lewis County commissioners. The contract lasts one year and expires each year at the end of June.

This year, Lewis County issued a call for bids for the newspaper of record in early February and opened the bids from the two responsive businesses on Tuesday, March 17.
