The Brick Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is formally introducing itself to downtown Chehalis with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Located at 536 N. Market Blvd., the business will celebrate the occasion with demonstrations, an opportunity to meet instructors and refreshments.
The Brick Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been operating under a soft opening since October 2025, giving founders Tyler McCallum and Ramon Coronel time to fine-tune operations, scheduling, class offerings and registration before officially introducing the business to the community, according to a news release from the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce.
McCallum and Coronel also operate McCallum Rock Drilling together. McCallum's long-standing passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu inspired the idea for The Brick, while Coronel played a leading role in acquiring the downtown property and managing its transformation into the training facility it is today, the chamber stated in the release.
Together, McCallum and Coronel invested extensively in renovating the historic downtown building, uncovering and restoring its original brick walls before transforming the space into a modern training facility with two dressing rooms, three bathrooms with showers and on-site laundry. The gym was designed with a strong emphasis on cleanliness while providing a welcoming environment for students of all ages, according to the news release.
The Brick was created to provide a welcoming place where people of all ages and experience levels can build confidence, develop discipline, learn practical self-defense and become part of a strong community. McCallum and Coronel have assembled an experienced team of instructors to lead classes for both adults and children, and the gym now offers classes throughout the week, along with youth summer camps.
"Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a personal passion of mine for years, and I'm grateful to have a partner like Ramon who helped turn that idea into reality," McCallum said. "We wanted to create a place where anyone can build confidence, learn new skills and become part of a strong community."
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that emphasizes technique, leverage and problem-solving over size and strength. It provides a full-body workout while helping students develop confidence, discipline, resilience, practical self-defense skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Classes at The Brick are designed for beginners as well as experienced practitioners, making the sport accessible to nearly anyone regardless of age or fitness level.
The next Summer Camp runs Aug. 17-18 and Aug. 24-25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, visit https://thebrickbjj.com.
The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and help welcome The Brick Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to downtown Chehalis.
