Wanderlust Cupcake Co., a sweets shop in Tenino, is set for an expansion on Saturday, Oct. 14 as the locally owned small business celebrates the grand opening of its Silo Shop storefront.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fall on the Farm will commemorate the grand opening of Wanderlust Cupcake Co.’s “Silo Shop” at 4800 Skookumchuck Road SE. Before opening the store front, owner Kari Deboer was selling her sweet treats from her front porch.
“It’s great to have a porch to be able to do that, but I wanted a little more privacy,” Deboer said. “It’ll be all solar powered, too, and it’ll serve as a local shop. Small businesses will be able to sell their products in the shop, too.”
In addition to celebrating the Silo Shop’s grand opening, the Fall on the Farm event will feature family-friendly activities for those in attendance. Deboer said there will be food, drinks and vendors on hand at the event. Participants can also claim a pumpkin, enjoy some of Deboer’s cottage bakery sweets or visit a petting zoo.
Several of the vendors scheduled for the event will sell jewelry, local meats and dairy products, soap and more, Deboer said. She added that several different games will be available for attendants to enjoy at Fall on the Farm.
“I am concentrating a lot on promoting other local businesses, as well as mine. They can expect to be shopping small,” Deboer said. “It’s going to be a big day of fun.”
Supporting small businesses is an important aspect of Deboer’s business, and she said she’s hopeful that small businesses feel the support by participating in the Fall on the Farm event or by selling their products in the new Silo Shop.
“It’s really important to me that small businesses are supported because my business is a small business. I shop locally where I can and when I can,” Deboer said. “I run a small business so I totally understand how important it is that we support these small businesses.”
Wanderlust Cupcake Co. will feature an old “1940s or 1950s” silo built into the store front. Deboer said the silo was brought to Tenino from Missouri and serves as a nice touch to the business’s look.
The business also aims to engage the community through events such as Fall on the Farm. Deboer said this winter, the business would like to host a “Winter on the Farm” event to welcome attendants to celebrate the holiday season.
